Make Your Own Website

Learning how to make your own website is longer difficult. With the advent of WYSIWYG website builders, content management systems and especially General Public License software (GPL) it is now easier than ever to make your own website.

You don’t need to rely of expensive web designers or IT professionals. You don’t need to be internet savvy and neither do you need a background in programming or html coding. Today you can learn how to make your own website quickly, easily and most importantly affordably. You can also get web design tutorials that will walk you through each step for you, making the process even easier.

The following three simple steps are all you need to make an online appearance without paying a fortune.

  • Step One: Purchase a domain name. There are several places you can purchase your domain from and for a reputable service it will cost you between $9.99-$35 USD. A warning about purchasing your domain from cheaper places like Go Daddy. Many spammers use these services so Google have cottoned on and banned sites with domains from Go Daddy. You don’t want to run the risk of not being able to get ranked on Google since this is such a large search engine. We use Domain Orb because they are fast and cheap at $9.99 a domain. There are many others you can choose from by doing a search.

  • Step Two: The second step is to acquire a web host. There are literally thousands of web hosting services to choose from each offering a variety of packages to choose from. You can get free hosting, which is ok for personal sites, but if you want proper search engine optimized websites, are using your site to promote something or make money from, you need a full service web host with a good reputation for customer service, uptime and troubleshooting turn around time. We use Hostgator for this as they offer packages from as little at $8 a month for unlimited hosting and it comes with your own content management system to make your own website. You can also easily download pre-designed we templates. The technical support turnaround has been phenomenal for us from 30 seconds to 3 minutes.

  • Step Three: Finally you must build your website. You are going to need to learn how to make your own website using either a website builder, html editor, content management system, website design software, or general public license software (GPL or GPU) which offers free and paid for web templates. Each comes with its own pros and cons price tags and learn curve time. If you want to make your own website easy and fast you’ll want to go with GPL as you won’t need to do any graphic design or even learn how to design a website. We recommend using the Simple New Web System as you get a tutorial with step by step instructions and whole lot of free templates to choose from. It will only cost you $79 other systems of this nature with tutorials will cost you round $299.

For beginners the task to make your own website doesn’t have to be daunting. Make it simply, keep it professional, and utilise the best services to get the best possible result.

The Problem With Free Content Management Systems

Free content management systems come with free web hosting services offered by small and large companies. Geocities was one of the first website to offer it’s customers free web hosting and free content management systems to build free websites from.

But what happens when the company sells or shuts up shop? We can see the problem with using free content management systems in the recent move by a large company, Yahoo finally deciding to close Geocities, which they had bought with $3 billion. So building your website with a reputable and large operation doesn’t guarantee its longevity or safety.

Unfortunately, many people’s websites are now going to disappear if they haven’t got them properly backed- up. Now all those people are going to have to redo their websites and learn some other content management system or invest in web builder software.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. Free isn’t free if it comes with limitations or a shelf life. It confirms what I’ve been saying all along. Do things the professional way right from the start so you don’t end up having to reinvent the wheel. Especially in the world on internet marketing. If you’re serious about having an online presence you’re going to have to invest something somewhere down the line to be taken seriously.

HostGator is a great and inexpensive hosting service under $10 a month and the Simple New Web System is a great training, website creation tool with mass email and database capability for only $147 and uses content management system software. Neither programs are going any where since this is their core business.

You don’t have to pay huge amounts for fancy web hosting when HostGator gives it to you for under ten bucks. You don’t have to pay huge amounts for fancy software when the Simple New Web System can get you up and running affordably.

With both schemes you also get to make as many websites as you like without paying a penny more. There is a whole lot of ground in between free and outrageously expensive when it comes to content management systems and web hosting. Don’t get caught out.

Warning About Web Page Software

Choosing the right web page software to make your own website from is just as important and choosing the right domain name when it comes to search engine optimization or SEO.  Very few professional SEO webmasters will tell you the software you can effect your search engine rankings. The more people buying the cheap web page software or the using freeware the better - less competition for the serious webmasters.

Let's take a closer look at this statement. Websites made with web page software (especially the free ones or free content management systems) rarely making it to the top searches within Google. Do a search in Google on your niche keyword for yourself. How many sites on the front page of your Google search have been made with free editors, content management systems or free web page software indeed web page software at all? Very few if any. Repeat this search with some other keywords as well. Why would this be?

The same can be said for Microsoft FrontPage software webs and Flash.  Early versions of FrontPage post erroneous html script that dilute your keyword density and make it harder for the Googlebot to get to your juicy keywords. Flash websites provide little html for SEO at all. These types of web page software are also best avoided if you want high rankings of the search engines.

If you’re serious about wanting to make your own website on the economical side, without having to purchase HTML Editors or web development software, then consider using General Public License or GPL, Joomla being the most popular.

Joomla, allows you to build a professional looking website with the full back end function with database and newsletter management systems for as little as $15-$299 including the training. You can make your own website with GPL  for free, however, you will get the designers advertising on the bottom of your template so you run into the same issues as the web page software. GPL offers such good value for money it is worth investing a little on custom templates and training. Tutorials range from $79-$299.

If you use 1.5 web templates you’ll also be able to search engine optimize and have full control over your template HTML. To have a fully fledged professional website up within a day, with full search engine optimization capability for only $79 and you’ll still come ahead of the cost of web page software so it is well worth your investigation.
